How qualified are the Jiu-Jitsu schools in your area? This is the question you want to ask yourself when you're researching for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in your area. You will have a lot of schools to choose from, so make sure that you do your research.
First, make sure the school is affiliated with the (IBJJF) The International BJJ Singapore Federation. They are basically the governing body the for the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also for the ranking system of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Next you want to make sure that the school is run by a certified black belt under the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation this is very important because in this day and age most schools should be run by a black belt. You don't want to end up a school run by a lower rank belt that hasn't had the time to mature in the sport and develop themselves as a qualified instructor. This will create a lot of bad habits that you will have to fix.
After you establish that the school you're checking out is an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation certified school and has certified black belt instruction you want to make sure that they have true beginner only classes. Most schools will just throw you into an advanced class and let you fend for yourself which really isn't best way to learn and actually slows down your learning process and creates really bad habits. So you want to make sure that there is a beginner only class with a detailed curriculum so that you can learn the foundation and the fundamental techniques of BJJ. So you can enjoy the sport, learn amazing self-defense and getting great shape.
So make sure when you're looking for a school that you go in do your research online then when you go to the gym make sure that they are a qualified school, make that they are certified under International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, make sure the classes are run by certified black belt and that they offer true beginner only classes, sit in and watch the class to see how its run, see how the instructor interact with students and if the instructor even rolls with the students, a lot of instructors when they run their schools they stop training with the students. So you want to make sure that you gain highest level instructions you can for the amount of money you're investing.
